Wong–Sandler mixing rule

The Wong–Sandler mixing rule is a thermodynamic mixing rule used for vapor–liquid equilibrium and liquid-liquid equilibrium calculations.[1]

Summary

The first boundary condition is

b−aRT=∑i∑jxixj(bij−aijRT)

which constrains the sum of a and b. The second equation is

A_EOSex(T,P→∞,x_)=A_γex(T,P→∞,x_)

with the notable limit as P→∞ (and V_i→b, V_mix→b) of

A_EOSex=C∗(ab−∑xiaibi).

The mixing rules become

aRT=QD1−D,b=Q1−D
Q=∑i∑jxixj(bij−aijRT)
D=∑ixiaibiRT+G_γex(T,P,x_)C∗RT

The cross term still must be specified by a combining rule, either

bij−aijRT=(bii−aiiRT)(bjj−ajjRT)(1−kij)

or

bij−aijRT=12(bii+bjj)−aiiajjRT(1−kij).
