UDP-N-acetyl-alpha-D-glucosamine + H2O ⇌ N-acetyl-D-mannosamine + UDP

The enzyme is found in mammalian liver, as well as in some pathogenic bacteria including Neisseria meningitidis and Staphylococcus aureus.
