Wikipedia isn't Google. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:42, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- But isn't that the point of redirects? Like we make redirects for song lyrics and quotes. It seems reasonable someone might search this up. Anthony2106 (talk) 00:36, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- Speedy Delete this implausible misnomer. Was teetering on the verge of R3'ing this myself because this is absolutely not a likely search term for the subject. We would absolutely not create a redirect to "whooping cough" titled "Coughing but worse". The "but" qualifier is already implausible, (what type of article would call something "this but not actually that"?), and the vagueness and open-ended "worse" turns the implausibility into a next-to impossibility. A lot of things can meet the description of "worse". Utopes (talk / cont) 00:48, 1 February 2025 (UTC)

- The result of the discussion was delete. Even the keep !vote acknowledges that the current target is not perfect target and an article could exist (WP:RETURNTORED). -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 02:00, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
"Age of Artificial Intelligence" appears to be part of the subtitle for this book. However, this feels like a broad term that could have many expected targets. My question is whether we should disambiguate or delete. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 23:40, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep for now, since "Age of Artificial Intelligence" is the main topic discussed in this book. Similar existing redirects include Pattern Recognition Theory of Mind, which redirects to How to Create a Mind. Of course, I wouldn't oppose retargeting to other [more] relevant articles such as AI boom. "Age of Artificial Intelligence" is a phrase that has been used by many notable people, and would be worth converting into a full article once enough citations and sources are gathered. I wouldn't recommend deleting, since it's quite relevant to the history of artificial intelligence and could easily be a well-written article. Thedeltamangrove (talk) 00:09, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- The fact that this Template:Tq may actually be an argument for deletion per WP:RETURNTORED. Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 01:40, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- delete per deltamangrove, since it could be expanded into an article (or at least a dab), so it's better if someone finds the red link. yes, i know this is a "delete per keep vote" vote, shush consarn (speak evil) (see evil) 20:49, 7 February 2025 (UTC)

This symbol is not mentioned at the target page. Utopes (talk / cont) 06:14, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget Homotopy#Homotopy equivalence where this notation is used, described, and sourced. The problem is that Template:Unichar is misnamed (see [1]). In mathematical practice, asymptotic equivalence is more commonly denoted . But this symbol is used for homotopy equivalence, was already mentioned in our article, and I just added a line defining this notation with a published source (a book, not the stackexchange link above which does not count as a reliable source). —David Eppstein (talk) 08:46, 24 January 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget to Approximation (or Approximation#Unicode if need be) for a more friendly landing that includes related symbols. The entry in the unicode table for can be expanded to include Homotopy#Homotopy equivalence for accuracy. ⇌ Synpath 18:37, 28 January 2025 (UTC)

- Retarget to Homotopy#Homotopy equivalence as Template:Tlx. Unless there are any other standard uses of it, in which case a dab might be appropriate, but I don't know of any. Using this for asymptotic-to seems to be pretty nonstandard versus just a single . But morally, this should probably go to an entry at Glossary of mathematical symbols...except it's not listed there. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 02:39, 1 February 2025 (UTC)

Incorrect terminology: on WPen we use either Eastern Orthodox or Oriental Orthodox to distinguish between the two Christian denominations.

- Weak keep since the nomination makes it seem as though the redirect is ambiguous, but the other topic doesn't currently exist on Wikipedia, thus the current target is the correct target since it's the only article currently in existence which this redirect could apply. - Template:No redirect → Number sign (talk · links · history · stats) [ Closure: keep/retarget/delete ]
Is there someone who can determine what this character is truly supposed to represent? Most discussions I have seen in the past stated this character represents the "sharp (music)" symbol, not the number sign. A problem here is that I really can't get a clear answer from third party search engines, probably because this character has targeted its current target for a considerable amount of time. (Maybe we need to retarget this or create a disambiguation page with these subjects and Hashtag listed? In addition, we also have the redirect "Template:No redirect", which targets Sharp (music), but it seems that's where it is supposed to go. This is further obfuscated when comparing the list of pages beginning with "#" (the nominated redirect) versus the list of pages beginning with "♯" (the aforementioned redirect currently targeting Sharp (music).) Steel1943 (talk) 22:55, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- This is Template:Unichar, not Template:Unichar. See Halfwidth and fullwidth forms for what "fullwidth" means. jlwoodwa (talk) 23:11, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- Keep This is the fullwidth number sign so number sign is the most appropriate target. As far as I know, all characters from Halfwidth and fullwidth forms (Unicode block) redirect to the same page as their regular counterparts (e.g " and "). While # does not have a page for technical reasons, I'm assuming that if it did, it would be a redirect to number sign. Nickps (talk) 15:11, 1 February 2025 (UTC)
- Keep per Jlwoodwa. Now that we know what it is, I suspect Steel1943 wouldn't want to renominate it. And it wouldn't make sense to handle a fullwidth character differently from a halfwidth character (e.g. I redirects to I, since that's better than a redirect to Halfwidth and Fullwidth Forms (Unicode block), and it would be preposterous to do anything else), so we should treat this the same as we would a # character if we could have it in a page title. Nyttend (talk) 22:07, 2 February 2025 (UTC)

BTCUSD=X
- The following is an archived discussion concerning one or more redirects. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on an appropriate discussion page (such as the redirect's talk page or in a deletion review). No further edits should be made to this section.
Delete as nonsensical or novel synonym. Astonishingly, Bitcoin doesn't mention or explain "=X". Unquoted Googling resulted in no "=X", whereas quoted Googling gave a dead link [2] and an unexplained [3]. There's neither LTCUSD=X nor ETHUSD=X. BTCUSD, ETHUSD, and LTCUSD would be more useful redirects than this one but don't exist either. 173.206.40.108 (talk) 10:14, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment "=X" was a Reuters convention that got popularised by Yahoo! Finance. Basically, Reuters Instrument Codes have "=X" appended to the end of them to mean (IIRC) "snapshot of spot rate", in contrast to "=R" for calculated rates (e.g. on currency pairs that no one trades), or just "=" for the realtime spot rate. (No idea where to find a WP:RS for any of the above; probably buried in a Refinitiv symbology manual somewhere.) 59.149.117.119 (talk) 11:35, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

No mentions of "Zoom", "Doom", or "Steel" at the target. Tagged as a "related meme without mention". People looking for information about this meme would not be able to read about it at the target, and Wikipedia is not a collection of unreferenced memes. - Delete per nom. GoldenBootWizard276 (talk) 00:25, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
- Comment these aren't "memes", as you claimed, but rather nicknames used for equally as famous logos that Viacom used in this era.
- "The V of Doom" (and presumably "Zooming V of Doom" as well) refers to the 2nd Viacom logo (the one used between June 1976 and September 13, 1986, according to AVID)
- "The V of Steel" either refers to the 7th logo (May 13, 1985-1986) or the 8th logo (September 13, 1986-1990), as both logos have steel V's. However, the 8th logo is significantly more well known within the community.
- "Wigga-Wigga" (mentioned in a different RFD) refers to the 9th logo (1990-May 11, 2000).
- With all of that being said, none of these are notable or even popular outside the (admittedly somewhat small) logo community. User:Someone-123-321 (I contribute, Talk page so SineBot will shut up) 03:13, 28 January 2025 (UTC)
- The redirects are tagged as memes. Hence I prefaced this with "tagged as a related meme without mention" which is definitely true that they were tagged as such. And none of these logos are ever referred to at the page in question so it's not giving anything for readers who want to read about the logos. Utopes (talk / cont) 03:34, 29 January 2025 (UTC)

Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Jay 💬 22:40, 31 January 2025 (UTC)- Delete. The claim that these are "common nicknames" for the logos is asserted without reliable sources to back them up. Worse, the entire thing is completely illogical. The article is about the company, not the company's logos. There isn't even a section at the target article on their logos. This is trivial at best. oknazevad (talk) 17:12, 8 February 2025 (UTC)

This complies with the normal name format for Australian councils, and doesn't comply with the normal name format for US communities, which are always "Placename, State" rather than "Municipalitytype Placename". A council in metropolitan Adelaide, even decades ago (before it became a city), sounds more significant than a few small US communities. For a comparable situation, see City of Chelsea, which covers a former Victorian council rather than redirecting to Chelsea#Places, even though some cities are listed there. Nyttend (talk) 22:13, 2 February 2025 (UTC)
- Most US municipal governments go by "[Type] of [Placename]" though. For example, https://www.townofelizabeth.org/ (the website for Elizabeth, Colorado) refers to the town government as the "Town of Elizabeth". Duckmather (talk) 02:05, 4 February 2025 (UTC)

The average man in the street

- The result of the discussion was delete. While it appeared initially that Vox populi#Man on the street was an apt target, the "the average" prefix in the title was seen as favouring List of terms referring to an average person. This situation was characterized as an WP:XY by Significa liberdade, and no one suggested a disambiguation. Other arguments that pushed for deletion include the "in the street" typo, and that the redirect appeared more forced than useful or plausible. Jay 💬 22:31, 24 February 2025 (UTC)

Beyond unlikely search term. Delete (or at the very least retarget to List of placeholder names). Anonymous 17:54, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete implausible search or link term. Actually it must be List of terms referring to an average person, not placeholer. --Altenmann >talk 17:57, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget to List of terms referring to an average person as suggested by Altenmann; current target is too specific to one culture, John Q. Public is more commonly used on my side of the pond. Carguychris (talk) 19:06, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget I am not sure this is actually better than the above suggestion, but another possible target is Vox_populi#Man_on_the_street which discusses the concept in more depth. Rusalkii (talk) 23:40, 15 January 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget - I like both of the suggestions above, but I think the Vox_populi#Man_on_the_street is a closer target and provides more information that the searcher would be looking for. Fieari (talk) 23:36, 16 January 2025 (UTC)

- Keep. The nom says it's an "unlikely search term" but offers no explanation why. "The average man in the street" and "Joe Bloggs" are effectively synonyms, so this is exactly the redirect required. — Amakuru (talk) 12:01, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- @Amakuru "offers no explanation why" ... um, this is Wikipedia, not Google. I don't generally type ambiguous phrases like "the average man in the street" into the search bar and hope that we have a wacky redirect for it. I'm pretty sure I'm in the majority here. — Anonymous 21:36, 23 January 2025 (UTC)
- Or John Doe or Average Joe or Tom, Dick, or Harry or John Q. Public or ... why should it target Joe Bloggs specifically? Largoplazo (talk) 16:05, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed, also per Significa liberdade, keeping this is not an option as Joe Bloggs is UK-specific. it's lio! | talk | work 16:30, 22 February 2025 (UTC)
- Delete as an unlikely search term, plus WP:XY. I'd be OK with retargeting or DAB, but keeping it at Joe Bloggs feels UK-centric at best. For instance, according to a finding of a crossword puzzle hint, "average man in the street" is Joe Blow, which appears to be the American equivalent. Please add new comments below this notice. Thanks, Cremastra (talk) 14:13, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. This is utterly useless and implausible as a search term. If it absolutely has to be kept, then the section at Vox populi is clearly preferable (it's where "man on the street" itself redirects), but the inclusion of the awkward "the average" prefix stretches credulity about what's needed as a redirect. I don't see that this is serving any useful purpose. 35.139.154.158 (talk) 16:38, 31 January 2025 (UTC)
- Delete. Sure, Vox populi would be a better target, but why keep this redirect at all? "man in the street", ok, maybe. "The average man in the street"? Come on. -- asilvering (talk) 23:12, 9 February 2025 (UTC)
- Retarget to List of terms referring to an average person. The inclusion of "average" complicates things, but the proposed target links to all the proposed terms. -- Patar knight - chat/contributions 02:08, 11 February 2025 (UTC)
- Delete, no need to force this one to exist, per IP 35. Utopes (talk / cont) 12:07, 13 February 2025 (UTC)

This could also refer to three different towns, namely China, Maine, China Grove, Texas, and China, Kagoshima. Since retargeting to China (disambiguation) won't do (as the current target is also a valid meaning, but wouldn't be a valid entry there), I suggest disambiguating instead.
