Testwiki:Department of Fun/Word Count/doc
Template:Documentation subpage
Usage
This wiki template is to ease the use of text counting within Word Association Game.
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count}} produces the following text:
- {{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count}}
The parameters must be set, otherwise it produces a dull text.
How To Use
It is recommended that the template is written split into new lines to provide better visualization and management for other editors.
Instead of using this way
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin}}
It's recommended to use the following syntax
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count
|count= 371 <!-- Word counter -->
|current= lol <!-- Current article -->
|max= 555 <!-- DO NOT MODIFY THIS -->
}}
- The template has three parameters
Count
Counter parameter is used to determine the current word count. So
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55}}
produces:
- {{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55}}
Current
Current parameter sets the current article into the text. As such
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin}}
produces:
- {{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin}}
Max
Max parameter sets the maximum words of the game or the branch. As such
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin|max=555}}
produces:
- {{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin|max=555}}
Using Piped Links
Template:Main A piped link is a link where the hyperlinked (underlined, clickable) text displayed on a Wikipedia page is different from the title of the page to which the text links.
Is recommended to avoid using pipe links because it goes against repeated words rule, for instance, John III leads to a disambiguation page, whereas each John has a respective and different context which could lead to a different game path. For example, starting with John III gives potential new directions such as:
John IIIPope John IIIRoman Pope John IIIJohn III, Duke of BrittanyDuchy of Brittany John IIIJohn 3Holy Bible
Whereas using [[John III, Duke of Brittany|John III]] gives:
John IIIDuchy of Brittany
Piping is advised when disambiguation is minimal. Piping links within this template must rely on {{!}} meta-template. The following code
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin (emulator){{!}}Dolphin|max=555}}
produces a transcript with piped link:
{{Wikipedia:Department of Fun/Word Count|count=55|current=Dolphin (emulator)|Dolphin|max=555}}
