Panama Lane Locos

Template:Afc r

History

The panama lane locos gang was established in 1993 amongst childhood friends David "Joker" Barajas and Tommy "Sandman" Hernandez. Both ex members of the southside bakers gang left when key leaders of the gang refused to retaliate against a rival colonia bakers for taking over some of their claimed territory. The gangs name is in reference to the area in which they resided in southwest Bakersfield off panama lane east of stine rd. to highway 99. During the gangs height of power they contolled most of the drug trafficing and prostitution in the southwest part of the city, although small in size compared to most of the cities other gangs they were well organized closely similiar to the mafia. Hernandez controlled the business aspects of the gang and Barajas as the enforcer of the gangs territory and violence against rival neighborhoods.

Rivalries

Since their departure from the southside bakers, attempts were made on their lives. Other ex members of the southside bakers started thier own set called rexland parquenos in reference to the rexland park area of the city. They also declared a street war against panama lane which lasted for 4 years, the panama lane locos gang had only one alliance with greenfield bakers whom shared the profits of the gangs trafficing in exchange for their "back up" against rivals. This alliance lasted until 1996 when an agruement amongst members from both gangs sparked a violent fight and shooting at a party in the greenfield area of the city.

The End of the Road

In 1997 there was a shooting outside a nightclub in rexland park where two gang members were injured. Witnesses claimed that Barajas was the shooter and afterwards police apprehended him on charges. In exchange for his own immunity Barajas testified against his fellow gang members and informed authorities about the gangs criminal operations. This devestated the gangs structure and lead to several arrests. The remaining members of panama lane fell victim to violence from the rival gangs or were incarcerated on other charges. By the end of 1997 the gang was disbanded by Hernandez and a new war sparked between southside bakers and rexland parquenos for control over the panama lane territory.

Smiley (Emoticon) Formulas

Template:Afc r

This page is all about how to construct smileys (emoticons) using formulas.

Formulas

A classic smiley can be constructed using the following formula (where x and y correspond to coordinates, r1 is the radius of the head, d is the distance from the top of a lip to a horizontal point on the head, r2 is the radius of the eyes, h is the height of the center of an eye from a horizontal line across the head, and n is the distance of the center of an eye from a vertical line across the head):

y=±r12x2,(r1d)2x2,±r22(x±n)2+h

(Example smiley needs to be created, along with other formulas for different types of smileys)

Music Is A Great Investment (MIAGI)

Template:Afc r

MIAGI– Music Is A Great Investment is a non-profit (Section 21) company based in Pretoria, South Africa and established in 2001 with the support of the South African Department of Arts and Culture.

MIAGI’s mission

• To unite the power of classical, indigenous and jazz music in performance and education and thus offer a key to positive social development and to deepening understanding across borders • To structure and add to a national network of music initiatives so as to bolster and secure the future of music education in South Africa MIAGI’s purpose is twofold: to present an annual international and intercultural music festival, and to create a sustainable future for music education initiatives in South Africa.

MIAGI Education

MIAGI focuses on music education for children as a central tool of social upliftment and cultural awareness. Children who are involved with music education are more likely to complete high school and go on to study further, and less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse. By supporting numerous existing music-education initiatives, MIAGI makes music education available to a growing number of young people, especially in historically disadvantaged areas. In addition to providing ongoing financial and technical support for such projects, MIAGI arranges workshops and the MIAGI Orchestra Course, and also provides mentorship with renowned artists. Collaborations with organisations and festivals abroad offer many young South African musicians opportunities to present their talents internationally.

MIAGI Festival

MIAGI’s annual Festival sees world-acclaimed musicians perform to extensive media coverage with many of South Africa’s finest aspiring young artists. Over the years MIAGI’s synergies have involved the eminent violinist Maxim Vengerov, star soprano Barbara Hendricks, jazz legend Miriam Makeba, the MIAGI Orchestra, the “Ngqoko Women” Xhosa overtone singers, top vocalists Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the English Chamber Orchestra, jazz percussion icon Louis Moholo, star pianist Fazil Say, the Gauteng Choristers, prominent mezzo-soprano Sibongile Khumalo, Thikundwi kha Sialala Venda Ngoma drummers and dancers, remarkable Pondo storyteller and musician Madosini, and trumpet sensation Sergei Nakariakov.

MIAGI and South African Music

MIAGI introduces South African music to audiences worldwide and inspire dialogue among people of different cultures through an intense process of artistic exchange that includes commissioning new intercultural compositions. This underlines our objective to educate in the broadest sense of the word – MIAGI unites people through music and empowers musicians throughout South Africa.

MIAGI Patrons

MIAGI’s patrons are President Martti Ahtisaari, peace-facilitator and former President of Finland, Maxim Vengerov, internationally renowned violinist and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and Dr José Antonio Abreu, UNESCO Ambassador for Music and Peace and creator of the national system of children’s and youth orchestras and choirs in Venezuela.

MIAGI and UNESCO

MIAGI has been appointed a co-operating organisation by the South African National Commission for UNESCO.

ChoicesUK plc

Template:Afc a

ChoicesUK was the second-largest chain of DVD and video game rental stores in the United Kingdom - as well as an AIM listed multi-channel distributor and retailer of DVDs, computer games and CDs. The company went into administration in August 2007 after the chain failed to secure refinancing for the business. Unprofitable stores were closed, but a buyer was found for its mail-order and online division. On September 14 2007, Blockbuster GB Limited bought the number of remaining retail stores from ChoicesUK Plc. The sale secured employment for approximately 450 employees across 59 stores in the UK. As part of the transaction, Blockbuster GB rebranded the stores as BLOCKBUSTER.

THE ROYAL CANADIAN PANCAKE HOUSES

Template:Afc r

THE ROYAL CANADIAN PANCAKE HOUSES

The Royal Canadian Pancake Houses were moderately priced gourmet pancake houses in New York City and in the South Beach area of Miami Beach, Florida. Specializing in huge varieties and huge sizes of pancakes, waffles, omelets, French toasts, and various other breakfast specialties, they were very popular brunch restaurants for almost ten years, with huge lines to match the portion sizes.

Development:

The Royal Canadian Pancake Houses were owned by Royal Canadian Foods Corp, a Delaware corporation. The first outlet opened up in Tribeca in New York City in 1989. It was followed by the opening of a second location in Midtown Manhattan. In November of 1993, the founders, Sheldon Golumbia and Beatrice Puja, took it public with a small public offering of 250, 000 shares of common stock at a sale price of $5.00/share. Subsequently, two more locations were opened up in NYC, in the Upper West Side and in Grammercy. In Miami Beach, Florida, Royal Canadian Foods also opened a Royal Canadian Pancake House and a Womlette House, featuring “womlettes” (an omelet with a waffle base). In the fall of 1998, Royal Canadian Foods closed up all their outlets.

Southern Tier Brewing Company was founded in 2004 by Phineas DeMink and Allen Yahn. The brewery takes its name from its location in New York's "southern tier" in the town of Lakewood. The brewery has expanded quickly, and now claims distribution across more than one-quarter of the U.S.

Year-round beers include their flagship Phin & Matt's Extraordinary Ale (an American Pale Ale) and IPA (India Pale Ale, among others. The brewery also produces a number of seasonals, such as Hop Sun (summer), Pumpking (autumn), and Old Man Winter Ale.
