Template:Infobox video game Thypher is a web-based science and word game where players attempt to guess a daily five-letter word by solving or deciphering physics and math equations. The game is free to play.
Publicly released in February of 2025, Thypher follows a game model similar to other word or puzzle games, such as Wordle, crosswords, or Sudoku, offering a single, common puzzle each day for all players to solve. It has been described as an educational tool for physics, with puzzles allowing players to learn and identify various physics laws, equations, and theorems.
The name is a portmanteau of the words "theorem" and "cypher."
Gameplay
A new five-letter word and the corresponding equations for each letter are picked each day at random. Players attempt to guess the daily word by solving and deciphering the given equations as quickly as possible — players are given unlimited attempts to guess, and are told when they are one-letter away from the correct solution.[1] For example, the expression would correspond to the letter "E," as, by the famous mass-energy equivalence, . Guesses are case-insensitive.
Words for Thypher are chosen from a further fine-tuned list of answer words from Wordle.[2] Specifically, some words with multiple "O" or "S" letters are removed, as these letters are relatively uncommon in math and physics expressions.[3][4] As with Wordle, answer words follow American spelling conventions.[5][6]
