In physics, coefficients of fractional parentage (cfp's) can be used to obtain anti-symmetric many-body states for like particles. In a jj-coupling scheme they are defined by the following relation.

Ψ1N(jNαJM)=α1J1jN1(α1J1);jJ}jNαJ[Ψ1N1(jN1α1J1)ψN(j)]MJ

The state Ψ1N(jNαJM) is normalized and totally anti-symmetric with respect to permutations of all its [[N particle|Template:Math particles]], while the state Ψ1N1(jN1α1J1) is normalized and totally anti-symmetric with respect to all its Template:Math particles.[1]
