Thus, the two substrates of this enzyme are (1R,6R)-1,6-dihydroxycyclohexa-2,4-diene-1-carboxylate and [[nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide|NADTemplate:Sup]], whereas its 4 products are catechol, [[carbon dioxide|COTemplate:Sub]], NADH, and [[hydrogen ion|HTemplate:Sup]].

This enzyme belongs to the family of oxidoreductases, specifically those acting on the CH-CH group of donor with NAD+ or NADP+ as acceptor.
