Deutsch: Diese künstlerische Darstellung zeigt die Phase, in der WASP-121b den Großteil seines Gases angesammelt hat – wie es die neuesten Ergebnisse nahelegen. Die Illustration deutet darauf hin, dass der entstehende Planet seine ferne Umlaufbahn von festen Partikeln („Pebbles“) geräumt hatte, die Wasser in Form von Eis speicherten. Dadurch entstand eine Lücke, die verhinderte, dass weitere Partikel den Planeten erreichten. WASP-121b muss anschließend aus den kalten, äußeren Bereichen in die Nähe des inneren Scheibenbereichs gewandert sein, wo er nun nahe bei seinem Stern kreist.
English: This artistic impression depicts the stage at which WASP-121b accumulated most of its gas, as inferred from the latest results. The illustration suggests that the forming planet had cleared its distant orbit of solid pebbles, which stored water as ice. As a result, the gap prevented additional pebbles from reaching the planet. WASP-121b must have subsequently migrated from the cold, outer regions towards the inner disc, where it now orbits near its star. |
