Summary
DescriptionSeptafoil 71 knot rotating.gif
English: A rotating 3D-printed model of the 71 knot (the septafoil knot, or the (2,7) torus knot). The model is a closed tube whose centreline follows the (2,7) torus knot. A channel runs the full length of the tube and holds loose steel balls; a slot along the outside of the channel keeps the balls visible but captive, so they roll along the knot as the model is turned.
Printed in one piece in PLA. The tube radius is 0.28 of the knot's major radius, close to the thickest tube this knot can carry before it intersects itself.

This is a retouched picture, which means that it has been digitally altered from its original version. Modifications: The background is a single static synthesised paper plate, fitted once to the real background and rendered across the whole canvas so it does not flicker between frames. The rotation axis is stabilised and light denoising was applied. The subject itself is unretouched..
