This chip came from a Pioneer DVR-111DBK DVD-R/RW drive head. The chip also appears to be made by Pioneer Corporation (better known for audio equipment).

I'm really happy with how this turned out, the chip is still attached to the PCB and I was not sure if this would skew the perspective of the chip but after my second attempt I got it to stitch nicely.

I was not expecting a home grown sensor like this, I thought they would use some generic sensor and just plop it onto the drive head. This chip has a clear epoxy casing and I did not need to break it out of it's packaging, this is why the wires are still there, which is unusual for most of my small dies. Unfortunately there is a smudge in the bottom right caused by this package and I cannot remove it.

I am not 100% sure what this is or how it works since there is no documentation related to the numbers inscribed onto the die (top left, bottom middle). Based on the similarities I am quite certain it is an optical sensor, but I am not sure what it is meant to detect. There is another chip like this on the PCB of the drive head but it is too blurry to see anything through the package.
