Summary
| Description |
Nederlands: Noord Hollands Blauw, kuikens, 6 weken, kleurverschil haantje en hennetjes English: 6-week North Holland birds showing the difference between heterozygous and homozygous/hemizygous phenotype for silver barred plumage. Barring is a sex-linked characteristic tied to the Z chromosome; the pullets (having ZW chromosomes) can only have 1 copy of the allele and be hemizygous at the locus, and hence always come out as "dark" silver barred; whereas cockerels can have 1 or 2 copies and so can be either "dark" (heterozygous) or "light" (homozygous) silver barred. |
