| Description |
English: Marcus Sparnaay, from the Philips Research Laboratories in Eindhoven, used this apparatus to perform the first measurement of the force between two parallel metal plates predicted by his colleague Hendrik Casimir. The photograph shows the disc that supported the bottom plate. A second plate was suspended above it at a distance of 1 micrometer. The apparatus is part of the collection of the Museum Boerhaave in Leiden, The Netherlands. |
