This enzyme catalyses the following chemical reaction

guanine¹⁵ in tRNA + 7-cyano-7-carbaguanine $\rightleftharpoons$ 7-cyano-7-carbaguanine15 in tRNA + guanine

Archaeal tRNAs contain the modified nucleoside archaeosine at position 15.
