It's short for $\mathrm{B}\mathrm{R}\mathrm{D}\mathrm{D}\mathrm{D}\dots \mathrm{C}\mathrm{E}.$

$\mathrm{C}$ stands for $\mathrm{C}$onsensus, and $\mathrm{E}$ stands for $\mathrm{E}$dit. The $\mathrm{E}$dit is then supported by the $\mathrm{C}$onsensus, so it sticks.

Otherwise, it doesn't.
