The Mandelbrot set is a fractal that is defined as the set of points in the complex number plane for which $z_{n+1}={z_n}^2+c$ with z0 = 0 does not tend to infinity. The Mandelbrot set was first defined by Pierre Fatou in 1905, and first plotted on computer by Benoît Mandelbrot.
